History of Dunn’s
Kathy Dunn has over 56 years of experience and has been classed as a Master Herbalist for over 30 years. Kathy began her learning at an early age from her grandfather Mr. J.A. Newman with whom she lived with as a child during the war years. Mr. Newman was a Herbalist in Victoria, Australia and had a practice in Bay street, Brighton. He went on to teach Kathy and her husband at the time Neville Dunn how to prepare and manufacture herbal medicine. The team continued her grandfathers’ herbal legacy in Croydon, Victoria. Dunns herbal clinic was then founded in 1975, operating originally from premises in Scarborough, Western Australia then later moving to a 10-acre property in Wanneroo. The team had a desire to purchase a large property where they could utilize their herbalistic techniques further.
The property in Wanneroo was purchased and Kathy quotes
“I stepped down on the ground and just knew deep down from un unexplainable inner knowing, this was the place”.
Converted in 1983
from nothing but horse paddocks into now organic lush, vibrant colorful gardens which are fed by an underground water system. Our dedicated gardeners, past students and volunteers follow permaculture techniques which give us our organic status for medicinal purposes. From 1975 – 1980 Kathy and Neville conducted a travelling clinic where they used various locations in the south and mid-west of Western Australia. Their main operational clinic was still based in Scarborough before completely relocating to Wanneroo.
Dunns School of Naturopathy & Herbalism
From 1978 the Dunns school of Naturopathy & Herbalism began. The school taught a 5-year Naturopathy Diploma both WA & Nationally recognized. Kathy in her early years studied and practiced Nursing at the Epworth Hospital in Melbourne. Maintaining a respect of Western medicines scientific approach, combined with the antient natural medicine teachings she is able to provide a deep holistic combination of healing. A decision was made to close the school of Naturopathy in 2009 to focus on the operation of the busy herbal clinic along with ongoing manufacturing techniques of medicinal production – see products for info. Due to the demand of Kathy’s teaching methods, she does still offer a 10-week herbal course each year for those who have a love for herbs and healing. She is still practicing, treating, and helping patients to this day and loves to share her knowledge and wisdom.
